Are you looking for some bone-chilling Halloween fun while you’re interning in DC? DC’s notorious past has a long history of conspiracies, crimes of passion, duels and assassinations, with ghost tours to see whose spirit you may encounter.

Over the next few weeks, as we run up to the creepiest day of the year, there’s lots of events that will help get you in the Halloween spirit.

Want to get spooked on a haunted city tour? Or take a “boo” cruise around the city?  We’ve got you covered with 8 of the best halloween events in DC to get you in a devilish mood.


Best Halloween events in DC: pumpkin1. Fright Fest at Six Flags

One of the biggest halloween celebrations in the DC area takes place around the spooky attractions and shows at Six Flags. You can catch this event every Saturday and Sunday until November 1st between 12-6 pm.

2. Night of the Living Zoo

On Friday, October 30th, between 6:30-10p.m the National Zoo will be putting on a hair-raising show featuring performances that include palm readers, fire eaters, talking bats, and illusionists.

3. Nightmare on M Street

If you’re looking for a Halloween bar crawl, this is the event for you. On Halloween (Saturday October 31st) between 5 p.m. to 1 a.m you can dress up and take off on a bar crawl of 30 of Washington’s hottest bars. This is a ticketed event and tickets are sold in advance, so make sure you get yours on time. You’ll also need your I.D. for this one!

Best Halloween events in DC: water4. Boo Cruise!

If you’re over 21, why not try something a little different this October 31st and take your costume on a Halloween cruise on the Spirit of Washington. The prize for the best costume is 4 free tickets on the Spirit of Washington.

You can start boarding at 9:00p.m. from Gangplank Marina, Washington DC.

 

5. Halloween Graveyard Jam

Not up for a cruise? How about a Halloween Graveyard Jam at the Hard Rock Café? Kicking off at 9pm and running through to 2am, there’s a costume contest (well it is Halloween after all) where the first prize is a trip to the Caribbean!!!

You’ll find the Hard Rock Café at 999 E St., NW, Washington, DC.

6. Halloween Parades

There’s no shortage of Halloween parades in the Washington DC area.

Best Halloween events in DC: party7. Blood and Guts Run

Start getting in the gruesome spirit from this Saturday (October 24th) with a Blood and Guts Run (sounds fun right?). Some of the events include costume competitions (it wouldn’t be a Halloween event without one!), a DJ dance party and a 5k zombie obstacle course where the zombies will attempt to infect you with “blood” filled water guns.

This takes place at the Bull Run Regional Park, Centreville, VA.

8. DC Ghost Tours

Ghost tour events in DCDC has no shortage of Ghost Tours. One of the main tours is the Tour of Lafayette Square where you’ll see the sites of the hauntings of the poltergeist of the Hay-Adams Hotel and Lincoln’s ghost in the White House. You can also take the Capitol Hill Ghost tour to mingle with the spirits of past lawmakers, Lincoln conspiracy trials and the disturbances at the Folger Library. You might see the famed ghost of Dolley Madison!

Tours are offered at night (between 8-9:30p.m.), from March to November, but there are extra tours offered in the run up to Halloween.
