Welcome to Washington, summer interns! We hope you’ll enjoy your time in our nation’s capital. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the District will be taking part in virtual festivities taking place in the District this Memorial Day weekend. And they’re all free!
In Real Time: Collecting Current Events
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we are living history and the Historical Society of Washington DC wants to capture these unprecedented times. The society started a project to record the current events of your everyday life. You are invited to reflect on and record your daily reality for others to look back on the history we are living today. The website has information on how to participate, from taking photographs and completing a survey to keeping a journal and gathering items for a time capsule.
Celebrate the Nats virtually
The 2019 World Series Champions will unveil their rings in a virtual ring ceremony. On Sunday, May 24 at 7pm you can celebrate with Nationals players. You can watch the unveiling on Nationals.com, MLB Network, MASN, and the Nationals’ Facebook page and YouTube channel. Additionally, a new docu-series about the 2019 postseason, titled Improbable, is being released in two partson Saturday, May 23 at 7pm and on Sunday, May 24 at 5:30pm.
Pay honor virtually to the fallen
While it is not currently possible to visit the memorials due to the pandemic, USAA’s digital Poppy in Memory campaign provides you with an opportunity to show respect while maintaining social distancing. The website provides several ways to pay tribute to the fallen this Memorial Day. You can leave a virtual poppy to honor a service member who gave his or her life in military service and share your remembrance.
