BEST BRUNCHES: DC RESTAURANT WEEK EDITION

D.C. Restaurant week is coming up on August 13-19  and these five restaurants are some of my favorites that are being featured for brunch! While I’ve eaten at all of these establishments (and too many more to count) my personal favorites I have ranked at number 1 and 2 because of the restaurant experience outside of just the food.

The Hamilton is the best because of the atmosphere. I mean who doesn’t love a restaurant whose mascot is Alexander Hamilton in sunglasses?! The restaurant environment is very upscale, but the bill won’t break your bank. The staff is super welcoming and they allow you to split the bill (many restaurants here don’t) which makes it super easy to go with a big group! Also, while I prefer traditional brunch foods during brunch, they serve everything from sushi to fish tacos during that time so there’s something for all your friends! Bonus: they have a live concert series in their basement!!!

Espita Mezcaleria is my second favorite brunch place in the city solely because the food is just THAT good. So good that we switch metro trains on a Sunday to get there. While Mexican food isn’t typically thought of as a brunch food group, this place does a great job on giving traditional Mexican dishes a brunch feel. They have a menu called the Precio Fijo that for $24 upfront and you pick from an impressive list of appetizers, entrees, and desserts AND you can have the courses brought out at your own pace. One Sunday, we sat there for 3 hours just because we could. It’s a great place to go when you’re really hungry and are in a social mood! They have tables for larger parties inside but also tables for two so they really can accommodate anyone.
