WISH Interns Opportunities in DC During COVID-19 Pandemic

Working as an intern in Washington, D.C. during a COVID-19 pandemic may cause you to face a lot of challenges, the experience also includes opportunities for growth in your professional career. Washington Intern Student Housing (WISH) interns are finding endless opportunities on Capitol Hill among the COVID-19 crisis. Two WISH alumni shared their experiences of interning and working on Capitol Hill during the pandemic.

Liberty University student, Brianna Tibbets, is interning in the office of U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) through her university’s Washington Fellowship program. While in Washington, she is using the experience to gain knowledge about government and politics on a national level and hopes to work in an entry-level staff position upon graduation.

“Honestly, I’ve loved this semester here in Washington D.C. and on Capitol Hill despite the pandemic. I’ve had the opportunity to connect with some awesome people, have great friendships, and endure so many once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Being here makes me realize this is the next step for me to reside in D.C.”, said Tibbets.

CSUN graduate, Makenna Sievertson, has had a front-row view of some of the biggest stories developing on Capitol Hill: Impeachment hearings of President Donald Trump, the President’s State of the Union Address and now, the House of Representatives response to COVID-19.

Sievertson said that living in Washington, D.C., has been life-changing, and she was astonished by the endless opportunities available

“I love my job. I love where I am at – this has been a great learning experience and it is great to build upon.”, said Sievertson.
