Where You’ll Stay
All locations house only interns! WISH interns and students come to Washington DC from across the country and around the world. Residents are introduced to each other at the WISH Welcome Reception so you get to meet the people who will be working alongside you.
Our office is in the heart of the national neighborhood, and our staff is on call 24-hours to assist you! Our clean, well-furnished housing locations are on Capitol Hill, with tree-lined streets, brick sidewalks and history around every corner.
Residences are within walking distance of the U.S. Capitol, House and Senate offices, Supreme Court, Library of Congress and Metro stations (Union Station, Capitol South and Eastern Market). We help you learn the neighborhood—where to buy groceries, Metro stations, shopping areas and great places to eat. Moving in is easy—just bring your clothes, computer and the basics and, except for mom’s cooking, we provide the rest. See our locations map and the bottom of this page.
WISH also works with many colleges and universities here and abroad and with graduate students from all disciplines. We rent affordable, furnished housing by the semester or year to academic programs that seek a presence in Washington, DC, as well as individual students working in Washington and exploring their career independently. WISH provides classrooms, offices and housing for visiting faculty as well!
WISH offers 35 intern-only properties in the historic district of Capitol Hill, in townhomes and apartment buildings just blocks the U.S. Capitol. While we don’t publish all addresses online, WISH buildings are located between Massachusetts Avenue NE on the Senate side and Pennsylvania Avenue SE on the House side, 2nd St and Eastern Market – the heart of the historic Hill! Our largest facility on the Hill is the Congressional, across from the Supreme Court and Senate Office Buildings, one block east of the Capitol on Constitution Avenue. Our one location in Northwest Washington, the WISH Woodley Park Center, is an alternative to Capitol Hill living two blocks from the National Zoo and Woodley Park Metro and a short walk to Adams Morgan.
There are two basic living arrangements:
The two types of living arrangements are town homes and apartments. Shared rooms and private rooms are available in either style. Town homes or row houses are coed by floors and can accommodate 8-12 interns each. Apartments range from studio layouts to 1-3 bedroom apartments and accommodate 2 – 6 interns each offering single or shared bedrooms.
Semester rates are based on living arrangements and number of months in the semester. For each intern, this rent covers fully furnished living space, utilities, house-hold goods. Furnishings also include: cable TV, wireless internet access, full kitchens, cookware/dishware and appliances (microwave, toaster, coffeepot, etc.), free laundry, irons/ironing boards, social mixers, speakers, and 24-hour emergency staffing. Students provide bedding and towels.
In place of a formal lease, students must complete and sign an application and supply two personal references, a $300 processing fee, and a $200 fully refundable deposit.
If full semester payment is not made prior to move-in, we require first and last month’s rent up front and the remainder within 30 days.
